Nuclear War

Escalating geopolitical tensions, nuclear proliferation, and eroding diplomatic safeguards have dramatically increased the risk of large-scale nuclear conflict. A full-scale exchange—even between regional powers—could trigger nuclear winter, collapsing global agriculture and triggering mass starvation. With thousands of deployed warheads, accidental detonation or miscalculation remains a persistent threat. The combination of outdated Cold War-era doctrines, new hypersonic delivery systems, and deteriorating crisis communication increases the likelihood of escalation beyond containment. Unlike climate or AI risks, nuclear war’s existential potential is immediate, irreversible, and already within human capacity to trigger.
