AI-Induced Catastrophe

The unregulated development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) is the most probable cause of global collapse. As AI systems become more capable and autonomous, a misaligned superintelligence could emerge, pursuing goals that conflict with human survival. Given the intense geopolitical competition for AI dominance, safety precautions are often sidelined for speed. An AGI could inadvertently or deliberately cause human extinction through control of critical infrastructure, manipulation of information, or the deployment of autonomous weapons. The rapid, irreversible nature of this threat, combined with the immense power it could wield, makes it the single greatest existential risk.
