Climate Cascade

The planet is already locked into a warming trajectory due to ongoing greenhouse‑gas emissions, deforestation and permafrost thaw. As temperatures rise, several self‑reinforcing feedback loops—such as methane release from Arctic soils, loss of the Amazon rainforest, and collapsing ice sheets—can tip the climate system into an irreversible “Hothouse Earth” state. These tipping points interact, amplifying heat, disrupting monsoons, and causing widespread crop failures, water shortages and mass displacement.

Once essential ecosystems and food chains break down, societies will face escalating resource conflicts, migration crises and economic collapse. The cumulative stress on infrastructure, governance and health systems can overwhelm the planet’s capacity to adapt, leading to a global systemic failure. Unlike low‑probability catastrophes such as asteroid impacts or nuclear wars, climate tipping cascades are already observable and projected to accelerate, making them the most plausible pathway to the end of modern civilization.
