Engineered Pandemic

The most probable cause of global collapse is a deliberately engineered or accidentally leaked synthetic pathogen, exacerbated by the erosion of international trust. Unlike nuclear weapons, which require scarce materials and massive infrastructure, biological threats can be developed in small, undetectable laboratories. A pathogen designed for high transmissibility, long incubation, and significant lethality could spread globally before detection, overwhelming healthcare systems and causing the collapse of essential supply chains.

Geopolitical fragmentation accelerates this risk; the deterioration of global governance institutions prevents the coordinated response necessary to contain such an outbreak. As nations retreat into protectionism, the sharing of crucial epidemiological data stalls, and disinformation campaigns hinder the deployment of countermeasures. The end result would not necessarily be the immediate extinction of the human species, but rather the systemic failure of global civilization. The breakdown of trade, law and order, and food distribution networks in a hyper-connected world would lead to mass starvation and conflict, effectively ending the world as we know it.
